Design Your Own Bubble Mural
Last fall, we hosted the Community Create & Play event with the help of a Historic South End Creative Lab grant. It was a huge success and we had so much fun introducing some of our favorite bubble-themed crafts to attendees. One of the biggest hits with people of all ages was our bubble mural, so of course, we made another during our Global Bubble Parade in May. Recreating this craft in your local community is an easy and inexpensive way for you to bring people together!
- A large bolt of black paper (can be found at most craft/office supply stores)
- Oil pastels (the more variety of colors, the better!)
- Circular items of varying sizes for tracing
- A hard surface
Since our play area was grassy, we began our craft by laying the large sheet of black paper on a table, making sure to secure the edges. Concrete or a driveway can work as a hard surface for your bubble mural, but we suggest using something heavy to secure the corners to prevent the wind from blowing it away!
Next, we used a few of our circular items to trace and color bubbles so the participants could get an idea of what the mural design would look like. We brought items like pot lids, cups, and frisbees but any circular object will work. Look around your house and see how many sizes the kids can find!
We also brought baskets and divided up the oil pastels and circular objects along the length of the black paper so multiple people would be able to draw at once.
We recommend blowing our Bubble World Fun Bubbles for inspiration!
The end result for our murals is always better than we hoped. There is no right or wrong way to color a bubble, but our favorites are always really colorful. Kids and adults alike can be excited to design their own unique and beautiful bubbles. At one event someone even drew a superhero bubble!
Your bubble mural can be just as original and impressive and will encompass the personalities of the people in your neighborhood. If you recreate this craft, make sure to take pictures, share them on social media, and tag us @bubbleworldtoys.
